Talented New Jersey Track and Field Star, Ava Wilmot (‘23), Ready to Make New Strides with Rutgers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 16, 2023 Contact@GoMVB.com Manalapan, NJ: Ava Wilmot, a highly accomplished track and field athlete from Manalapan, NJ, is still celebrating her signing with Rutgers University – as she should be. This achievement is the result of Wilmot’s tireless efforts and dedication to the sport throughout the years. Wilmot is a talented athlete, known for her speed and endurance on the track. She competes in the 1600m, 3200m, and 2k steeplechase. In 2022, Wilmot was the champion in the 3200m for NJ Group 3 and placed 8th in the nation in the 2k steeplechase at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor at the University of Pennsylvania. While she loves competing in all three events, Wilmot said that the 2k steeplechase was her favorite. "It is such a diverse event, testing endurance over 1.25 miles and strength with 23 hurdles in the race - 4 of them being water jumps." In addition to her success on the track, Wilmot is also a leader among her peers, serving as captain for both the cross country AND track and field teams at Colts Neck High School for the past two years. Consistently demonstrating the highest level of sportsmanship, Ava has always represented Colts Neck with pride. Demonstrating that hard work and dedication pays dividends, Ava will now have the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level for Rutgers University. She will join a talented team and will no doubt make a strong impact as a member of the Scarlet Knights. When talking about why she chose Rutgers, Wilmot expressed how “Coach Jelley and Coach Traynor were always invested in and have always believed in how successful would be when became completely healthy after setbacks and are excellent mentors for the team.” Not only is Wilmot a standout athlete, but she is also a dedicated student, maintaining an outstanding 4.6 GPA, earning Honor Roll every marking period, and Principal’s Honor Roll numerous times. On top of that, she also participates in the Colts Neck ROTC program, where she’s won several awards. Wilmot told us that she has “always put her academics before athletics,” and how she is thrilled to join one of the best criminal justice programs in the country at Rutgers. Clearly a well-rounded student-athlete, Wilmot is sure to thrive both in the classroom and on the track at Rutgers. Quite the list of high school accomplishments for this young woman – trust there will be many paying attention to the impact she will soon make at Rutgers University.
